Congratulations Mayor Barry!
The Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus (TNWPC), a multi-partisan organization, affiliated with the National Women’s Political Caucus, congratulates newly-elected Mayor of Nashville, Megan Barry.
Welcome to the Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus Website.
The Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus is a statewide multi-partisan organization promoting full and equal participation of women in government and the political process and supporting measures to open economic and political opportunities for women. The caucus strongly encourages women to seek public office, whether elected or appointed, and our membership is comprised of distinguished women who are involved in all aspects of government.
The Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus was begun in the living rooms of a handful of women with a vision of women becoming more involved in the political process. The purpose of the Caucus at that time is well stated by Marietta Shipley, Retired Judge of the Second Circuit Court of Davidson County, “The reason we wanted the Caucus to go forward was because we wanted to get women actually involved in politics, running campaigns and running for office. We needed to get out of the back room licking stamps and stuffing envelopes and on the front side running campaigns, running for office and running campaigns for women running for office.”
The Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus focuses on the education and training of women in all areas of political participation, from the importance of voting to running for office.
We promote full and equal participation of women in government and political parties and we strongly encourage women to seek public office, whether elected or appointed.
We are an organization committed to educating women on participation in the political process and support economic equality opportunities for women. We are organizing caucuses across the state and would love to come to your city, town, and college campus and help you form a caucus. Let me hear from you. I look forward to working with women across this state to elect more women and advocate for issues that are important to women, children and families.Deidre Malone
